Music Lessons On Tape

Karaoke is just a bit of fun, no? Not quite - the truth is
that kids can learn about music just by joining in with
those karaoke tapes. That is not all - it can improve
their recall, their reading and inter personal abilities.
There are also karaoke tapes that are educational in
design, aiming to teach science, about the environment and
health. Not bad from a tape (or CD) with a set of
well-loved songs and words.
When I was young one of my favorite pastimes was singing
along to my preferred songs on the radio. I would also
tape them in order that I could listen to them as much as I
wanted, make believing I was the famous singer. I also
persuaded my mother to buy me records that came with the
song sheets contained inside the record covers. I spent
many happy hours listening to the songs and learning their
lyrics. Although my family did not have the resources to
send me for private singing tuition, my practice at home
was useful when it came to castings for plays or concerts
put on at school. I was lucky enough to get some good
parts due to the fact that I knew the songs off by heart.
Today's karaoke tapes and CDs for children can offer the
same opportunity for many young singers. Even if the child
has no ambition of trying out for solos or parts in
community plays, the confidence that a child gains when he
or she performs these songs can carry over to other areas of
the child's life. For instance, practicing an oral report
for a class is much easier to approach when you first rely
on the steady flow of background music to guide you through
a series of lyrics. Some karaoke tapes even offer feedback
about your vocal talents and expression. These low cost
lessons are great for any highly motivated child who so
desperately wants to develop his or her singing voice. Even
without karaoke singing lessons, a child is naturally
developing and strengthening his or her vocal muscles and
upper body strength.
Sing along tapes for children and Children's Karaoke are
slightly different in that with the sing along option the
CD or tape really only gives background music and a song
sheet with lyrics on it. As such, the sing along tapes
require that the child already knows how the song goes
before they can accompany it. The karaoke tapes and CDs,
on the other hand, don't require that the child memorizes
the lyrics or the tune so that they can sing along. This
is because some of them let you listen to the backing
singers first. With karaoke CDs and DVDs the lyrics are
shown not just line by line but the words that should be
sung at that moment in time are emphasized. In this way
children know when to hold onto a note for the right length
of time and to pace themselves when following the tune.
